Welcome to the Precision Systems Design Laboratory at the University of Michigan. Our primary research interest lies in extending the fundamental performance limits of machines in terms of precision, mobility, speed, and robustness. Our machine design philosophy is based on the principles of precision engineering and mechatronics with a strong emphasis on kinematics, mechanics, dynamics, and controls. Key research topics in our group involve flexure mechanism design methodology, and dynamics & controls of flexible systems. Examples of ongoing application-oriented research include large-range high-speed nanopositioning systems for nano-scale metrology and manufacturing, and minimally invasive surgical tools. Please feel free to browse through our research pages - your comments and feedback are always welcome.
